Water-based Fluoropolymer Impregnator

  • Description

    SURFACE BARRIER™ is a “state-of-the-art” water-based fluoropolymer impregnator that penetrates deep into porous surfaces, creating a long lasting, invisible barrier that allows vapor transmission. SURFACE BARRIER™ repels and protects against dirt, oil, food stains, grease, mold, mildew and waterborne soils.

    SURFACE BARRIER™ can be used on all indoor and outdoor natural stone surfaces including: marble, granite, limestone, onyx, travertine, terrazzo, flagstone, sandstone, slate, clay tile, Saltillo tile, terra cotta, quarry tile, cantera, unglazed ceramic tile, pavers, grout, concrete and masonry surfaces. SURFACE BARRIER™ is ideal for indoor use on floors, kitchen countertops, showers, tubs, fireplaces, etc. SURFACE BARRIER™ is also designed for outdoor use on stone surrounds, terraces, balustrades and swimming pool surrounds.

  • Directions

    SURFACE PREPARATION: Surface must be clean and dry. On floor surfaces, make sure all waxes, floor finish or other coatings are removed. If a coating is on the floor, use NCL HURRICANE™ Intensive Stone Cleaner for removal. For newly installed floors, make sure the grout has been cured for a minimum of 72 hours. Thoroughly clean the surface with HURRICANE according to label directions, rinse well and let dry for 12 to 24 hours prior to impregnation.

    APPLICATION: Apply SURFACE BARRIER™ in thin, even coats with a sprayer, paint roller or lambswool applicator and distribute evenly onto a small, manageable area (normally 3-4 ft. wide X the length of the space). Agitate mildly with the application tool and allow 5 to 10 minutes for penetration. After the first application, re-apply in the same manner as the first time and allow 5-10 minutes for total penetration. Impregnation is complete when the stone no longer absorbs the material. When total penetration is achieved, remove any remaining material by squeegee; towel dry or buff with a white pad and move back to the next area. The treated area may be opened to foot traffic one hour after completion, but maintenance or any purposeful application of water should not begin for 48 hours after completion.

    NOTES:  Always test in a small, inconspicuous area for desired results.

    For newly installed slab surfaces that are “mud set”, impregnation is not recommended for 3 to 4 weeks.

    In high traffic areas, a light periodic re-application may be needed for maximum protection.

    COVERAGE:
    For polished surfaces - 800 to 1000 sq. ft. (75 - 93 sq. meters) per gallon.
    For Non-Polished Surfaces - 500 to 800 sq. ft. (47 - 75 sq. meters) per gallon.

    Note: more porous stone surfaces such as saltillo tile, Mexican pavers, flagstone, sandstone, etc. will require more material.
